I Am With You

Book of Jeremiah

4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew [a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6 “Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.”

7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.

Encounter and reminder today: God is always with me.  His Holy Spirit guides me.  Believe it!

16 I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in burning incense to other gods
and in worshiping what their hands have made.

Encounter and reminder today: We are worshipers.  If we are not worshiping the One who deserves our worship, then what/who are we worshiping? We’ll worship something.  If not Him, then who?

Long Lasting Changes

Excerpts from ‘Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands’

…As sinners, we have a natural bent to turn away from the Creator to serve the creation.  We turn away from hope in a Person to hope in systems, ideas, people, or possessions.  Real Hope stares us in the face but we do not see him.  Instead, we dig into the mound of human ideas to extract a tiny shard of insight.  We tell ourselves that we have finally found the key, the thing that will make a difference.  We act on the insight and embrace the delusion of lasting personal change.  But before long, disappointment returns.  The change was temporary and cosmetic, failing to penetrate the heart of the problem.  So, we go back to the mound again, determined this time to dig in the right place.  Eureka! We find another shard of insight, seemingly more profound than before.  We take it home, study it, and put it into practice.  But we always end up in the same place…

Live, Don’t Just Survive

It’s pretty surprising to see how many of us (including myself) hold on to the comfort the known but mediocrity, than to welcome change and start living.  Changes are scary and takes effort, they are not easy.  I think one of the misconception is that changes are complicated, but it’s not.  It’s actually pretty simple.

Being the logical/analytical being (me) – I like to do pros/cons.  Here are few things I can think of when thinking about changing to start living.

  • All-in/All-out life style brings excitement and newness
  • Get to experience life for all it has (love, joy, happiness, sorrows, disappointments etc)
  • Experience the high of highs, and learn to avoid the low of lows
  • More of everything that we truly desire deep inside
  • Taking control of things that I have control over, instead of letting fate takes the steering wheel

All these involves, making a decision to change.  It’s foreign and takes courage.  But I think a lot of us fail to make that step is because how much fear we associate with change.  So we rather succumb to this fear, and to give up all of the above, so that we can be comfortable.  Perhaps, we wish that we can reap the above without sowing the seed.  That is quite frankly, a wishful thinking.  What I am about to say may be controversial, but I thrive on controversies, so here it is: Praying to God will not get you these things if you are not willing to do something about it.  You can’t just pray your way out of something, if you acted your way into it.

One of my favorite quote is this – “Courage is not the absent of fear, but knowing that there is more important things than fearing”

1. Take courage.  Take the first step.  Make a commitment.

2. Willing to let go of what you have so that you can receive something better.

3. Find true self and find your purpose

So would you rather survive? or live?  If it is to live, when will you start?

Personally for me, this is a daily decision, and it is an intentional one.  I have a tendency to slip back into the old self when I am not on the ball.

Double-minded

James 5-8 from The Message translation:

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.

If you pray, ask boldly and expect it.  I love that.  It’s awesome to see God working in your life and see our prayers become bolder and bolder and our faith strongthens each time we step out in faith.  Not doubt, not anxiousness and not worry.
