What I want for Christmas

In the effort to not gather much for myself, but to give to care for the less fortunate.  I signed up to receive a package from Compassion International, of a child who needs sponsorship, and for me to ask one of my friends (or anyone who is interested) to commit to sponsor this child.  I’ve worked with Compassion International for few years, and I’ve had nothing but the best experience.

So let me introduce you to this girl:

Name: Gloria

Location: Indonesia

Age: 4

About Gloria:

In her home, Gloria helps by caring for children and running errands.  She lives with her father and her mother.  Her father is sometimes employed and her mother maintains the home.  There are 2 children in the family.

Gloria is not presently attending school.  Singing and playing with dolls are her favorite activities.  She also attends church activities regularly.

Please remember Gloria in your prayers.  your love and support will help her to receive the assistance she needs to grow and develop.

What more could you want for Christmas than to share the joy of sponsoring Gloria and know you are helping her learn and develop physically, mentally and spiritually?

Friends, if you’d like to sponsor this child for $38 a month, please send me an email or leave a comment by 12/15, and I will give you the packet to complete – takes 2-3 min.  I appreciate your consideration.  Feel free to share this with friends via Facebook, Twitter and MySpace etc.

Why the universe, why the stars…

It’s a great question why the universe is so big.  Why are all the stars?

To be honest, I don’t know.

But maybe God created all that to illustrate Himself to us and also for our learning purposes.  For example, He used the stars in the heaven to illustrate to Abraham that the offsprings will be numerous.  God created bees to show how individually everyone plays a part in a big picture and that even tiny insect like bees, God had His hand in.  Same goes with farming, to illustrate His point about gleaning and teach people to trust Him with things like weather that we have absolutely no control over.

Like I mentioned in the post Greatness for the Insignificant, the big universe is to show how insignificant we are but yet how the almighty God cares for a personal relationship with us.

Maybe all the planet and things actually exist to create the perfect living condition on earth.

At the end of the day, we just won’t know the whole answer to Why.  His ways are higher than ours.  So then does it prevent us from believing God, since we don’t know it all? Well, maybe…or maybe not.  I often think, if I was able to understand everything that God knows, then He really isn’t that big.  Do you really want to put your whole life in my hand? Seriously now.  I don’t even want to myself. lol

We all have faith.  It’s just matter of what we have faith in.  Simple statement like ‘God doesn’t exist’, well that’s a faith too.  Same goes with faith in science, or faith in men.

Personally for me, none of the books or debates or theories did it for me to prove that God existed.  It was time after time, the personal encounters that slowly broke away the unbelief.  Truth is, if it wasn’t for the lowest of lows in my life, if it wasn’t for those moments when everything seems so dark and hope seems so faint, I wouldn’t have came that close face to face with Him.

Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

My mind is a constant battlefield.  Living in north america, we may not come across physical attacks but the scheme moves onto the thoughts, doubts, enticement from comfort and materialism.  But see, churches don’t talk about this very often.  I’ve heard so many believers carrying words around their mouth like ‘I am just worried if this doesn’t go the way it should be’ or ‘I am afraid, I don’t think I am good enough’.

I, myself, included.  Very often I will be in meetings and then I have questions that I have no answers to.  Yet, right then, I get these thoughts or voices in my head ‘Ha, they are gonna think you are a dumbass’ or ‘You don’t even know answers to these questions, why are you even doing this?’.  With those, the feeling of defeat sweeps right over my body.  Then, everything about us changes, we begin to believe those lies, we begin to respond in lack of confidence etc.

Stop right there!

Really? I’d catch myself few thoughts later that, wait a minute, those weren’t thoughts from the Lord.  They are the devil’s schemes and I just bought it. No!

We have truth in the written Word to use as a sword.  We have the whole armor.  We can claim victory!

If you still thinks that spiritual attacks only happens when you go on a mission trip to some 3rd world country, you are opening yourself up for a surprise.  Pay attention to your thoughts.

Joshua 1:9

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

It’s not I will be courageous when I achieve this, or when I have gotten this.  It’s that we can be brave, strong, courageous and confident NOW because victory is ours to claim.  Will you live a victorious life?

July 15

I learned couple of days ago that there are many children in Tanzania has the birthday of July 15th. Not that they were really all born on that day, but that nobody knows when their birthdays are. The forgotten birthdays.

The statement to close off the blog that I read from was “Imagine never knowing your own birthday! Maybe someday in Tanzania, July 15th will be a national holiday to  celebrate the forgotten birthdays of so many people in this country”

An idea popped up in my mind – maybe we can be the movement to make that day happen! Better yet, how about we throw the birthday parties for these kids, give them hope, and let them have a shot at this life and dream some big dreams.  Perhaps, one day they’ll take the step into a new life, and maybe that day will mark their new birth!

So I purchased www.july15.org

I’d like you all readers to pour your creative juice in and think of things this can potentially develop into.  Feel free to leave comments or email me directly.

I was also told that there needs to be more children books written by native authors for native children.  Perhaps that may be a good start.

Or, maybe each person give up one birthday present and instead purchase a gift for one child in Tanzania.
