Sitting on my Toilet

Thoughts, inspirations, revelations and ideas

Being You in 2010

I was just sitting at the coffee shop and thinking that people try hard to be an inspiration to others, learning different communication techniques and reading different books to better themselves.  I think all those are great, but I think ultimately what makes you inspiring is actually you being yourself.  Who you are at its true self is what inspires people.

There is a famous saying, be yourself because everyone else is taken.

People would find someone inspiring because they are unique, they lead a life of integrity and their life stands for something meaningful and purposeful.  I believe we can find that person when we are being ourselves.  Though when someone says to be yourself, many people have a hard time even knowing who they are.  It’s not an easy task for someone who for majority of their life lead a life of someone else, under someone else’ expectations and lost touch with their heart.  But I believe if one sincerely desires to find their true self, it can be done.

So how will you live out 2010? Will you be yourself or continue to live as someone else?

Few things that I am going to remind myself this year are:

Remember, the most effective way to reach your goals is to write them down, be absolutely clear and make sure it stir up positive emotions.  Write them down and review them often, best is daily!  The art of life is to be in charge but also to surrender.

Happy New Year everyone! (take a minute to vote ——–>)

Verse of the Day

Psalm 127

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.

2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to [a] those he loves.

Help! I Don’t Understand

Typically, the board hires the CEO based on qualification, values, abilities and character etc.  The CEO will then assemble his/her team, training them and making sure that they all got the company’s core message and have a very good understanding to then spear head their own area of responsibilities.

Thinking about a church.  Senior pastors, deacons are selected very carefully, making sure their qualifications, their doctrine knowledge, their own faith and ultimately, their heart conditions are looked upon.  How do churches pick volunteer leaders though? Seems most of the places simply pick because they have a huge need and rarely screens.

Kinda dangerous isn’t it?

It literally can be blind leading the blind.

Kinda same with evangelism too.  I recently heard some one explaining why good people die early, or why bad things happen to good people.

‘It’s like you going to the flower shop.  You pick the prettiest flower first.  God is the same.  He picks the good people first to go to heaven to be with Him’

What does your church do when selecting ministry leaders?

Redeeming the Talk

Just as we surrender our life wholly to God, we also surrender our physical bodies.  We no longer use it for our own purpose, whether to abuse it with unhealthy food, lack of exercise, drugs or whether to idolize it with pleasure, fashion, skinny/fat etc.  Lately, the theme that God is speaking to me is the surrendering of Talk.

Our speech is of great power and a huge responsibility.  It is also something to surrendering and be redeemed for His purpose and glory, rather than ours.  We use words as weapons, as oppose to building.  We withdraw words when we should be speaking.  We casually pick vocabularies when we should be relying on the Spirit to have God’s words placed on our lips.  We use our words to dilute God’s truth, or sometime even misrepresents.

Words are quite powerful.  In the beginning, God spoke the universe into motion.

So here I am wanting God to redeem my talk, and redeem the tongues that I’ve neglected to keep up and perfect.  I believe He will reactivate them.

Things look so different when we just stop for a moment and ask what God wants us to do in that situation and then we speak.  Be mindful about every time when we open our mouth.
