Do not conform to this world

Romans 12:2

2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

How do we know if we are any longer conforming to the pattern of this world? What do we use to test?

Will this be a good test?

If a non-believer sees everything you do, the decisions you make, the priorities, the values and the thoughts you associate yourself with, and if all that makes perfect sense to them.  Is that a good indication?

God the Pinata

I believe giving is great.  Yes, and tithing is not just about money, and it’s about first thing first and what/who you choose to honor with your finances.

What I don’t get is when the preacher goes, if you give, God will bless you abundantly back to you.  And then proceeds to quote “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (it’s taken out of context too)

So essentially:  God is a pinata.  Your tithe is the stick.  You whack with it and God will drop some candies.

Will you still honor God with your finances, even if He didn’t add another cent to your finance?  Does it change the fact He is still the provider who gave you all that you have?  Maybe you don’t see it that way?

Why do you put the LORD to the test?

Read Exodus 17 this morning.

A verse stuck out to me was when Moses said to the Israelites ”Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?”

Israelites’ disobedience and unbelief in the season of testing, and their response towards the Lord in a way is seen as putting the Lord to the test. “Is the LORD among us or not?”

God said He will be with us always.  He will not forsake us nor leave us.  And those who are His, inherits His abundance.

Those promises; we are so easy to forget.

A thought this morning, I had was “Why do I need to see the resources, before I believe that He is working in me.  If He wanted to do something through me, He’d provide the means when the time comes.  Not like I need that today.”

Maybe it’s sense of security in something we can see.

I think I mentioned before that ‘Wanting God to be God in your life, is very different from wanting God to be a helper at a arm’s distance”.  Why do we say ‘we did so much for you, why have you not granted us _________ (insert something that you’ve been desiring)’?

We take His grace and mercy that exists in our life for granted.  We made that the ‘norm’.

What would God say? Maybe…”No, if you wanted ‘fairness’ and ‘justice’, you’d be dead long time ago”

Rather humbling thought.  Grateful at the same time.

Marriage

Only people who think marriage is easy are the singles and the engaged.  Just think about it,

Sinner + Sinner = ?

I am not saying it’s a nightmare either.  I think it’ll take God’s sanctification for us to the next level.  To have us realize his grace to beyond what we see when we are single.  To love ‘her’ like Christ loved the church, and to respect ‘him’ like how we would respect and submit to Christ.

It’s easy to say ‘What about her?’ or ‘What about him?’.  I wonder what God would say, ‘What about you?’

Something to think about.
